The homecoming was first performed in in 1965 and was written by Harold Pinter, its premier is in London ( Aldwych) and New York.
It is set in a living room in north London and has a total of six characters, five men which are: Max Sam, Lenny , Joey and Teddy and one lady called Ruth who they all seem to have their eyes on later in the play. Teddy and Ruth decided to come to London after being in America for some years as he wanted his wife to meet his family but things do not turn out to go too well between the couple as she makes a move with all his brothers so he ends up going back to America by himself. The theme of the homecoming is about relationships which is mainly expressed with violence with the sounds being played and through silence in some scenes.
The product designer was Soutra Gilmour she designed the set of where the play was taken place at. She did not do such a bad job as the space was not too big but she managed to add a bit of furniture that matched the time and age of when the play was set which was nice plain and simple.
The light designer was Richard Howell and I thought he did a very good job with the lights because when ever a character had an angry thought in their head the lights would change dramatically to a different colour that matched their emotion and it was unexpected which made it better and gave us a hint on how they were feeling inside if they did not openly mention it out.
In terms of the costume design which was done by Christine cover ferro I think she did a good job as well because it was meant to be set years ago and from watching the play I did not know whether it was a modern one or old one but looking at the costumes it gave me the answer straight away because of what they were wearing.
Overall the play was not really my cup of tea but some scenes were interesting to watch especially the character that the old man was playing as he was getting rude to everyone and made the play have slight humour to it. However, I do not think that it was successful getting its message across because it is about people coming home but watching the play you would not think of it like that. The scene that was good was when they all sat down and drank their whisky at the same time it was quite interesting how they all done it in sync without even looking at each other.

Rehearsals and performance day
We combined the sections into a whole piece of drama and went down to the theatre to work on the Medea play, we were going over our scenes adding any possible movement that we felt suited what we were doing.
We joined up with the dance students to join the Medea piece together as they are doing the first section and we are doing the second half but its for our assessment. Not only have we been practicing for Medea but we had to practice a dance routine with them as well to help them with their assessment coming up, it was a bit of a struggle for most people as they could not get the dance movements right but after how many retakes we got the moves together and some of us were reading our Greek letters and the dancers would dance around to what we were saying. It was stressful and tiring to be honest but when we got the hang of it it was not too bad.
For our country's good I learnt my script within a week which was good as it gave me more time to play around with it to know what type of tone i should have when talking to Harry and realized that my character is very frustrated at him so for most of the scenes I am angry and fed up with speaking to him so I had to act grumpy and angry.
The performance day!
The performance for our country's good and the dance piece were on the same day and i felt the dance piece for me did not go well because I messed up and was so embarrassed about it because i forgot a move and did a gesture when everyone else was doing something else so I did not like it at all and hope not to have to do a dance collaborative again as that is not one of my strong points. However i felt that the our country's good went brilliant for me i knew my cues very well and was in character from the very start.

Our county's good.
Our country's good is a British play written by Timberlake Wertenbaker in 1988 which is about convicts and royal marines who found themselves required to act in a production which was set in wales around 1789. The character that I am playing in this play is called duckling and she so happens to be a young thief and prostitute who gets sentenced to death at only 18. She has a complicated relationship with her lover Harry ,she is a feisty person who loves her man but he tries to control her most of the time and she doesn't like it so she releases her frustration at him. It is based on a true story of convicts rehearsing a play and it was adapted from a play called the 'play maker ' by Thomas Keneally which is based on a historically fact. Wertenbaker does not draw any themes from the action but is more interested in telling a play and uses a character called captain Phillip in the novel to express one central theme in the play which is respect for everyone and uses the character Duckling as a theme of sexuality as she likes to go and see the other marines in the camp even though she has a man. I like how he uses different characters to portray different themes because it gives the play a bit of life in a way and shows that not all them have similar roles.
I have been developing my vocal skills when performing because in our country's good I have a few scenes that i am shouting at harry and I struggle to yell and to be angry when needed to be but I have been practicing to do so and when i performed it, it went better then expected especially reading some of Stanislavski theories because he believes that when you act you should act as natural as possible and that is what i was aiming to do when on I am stage.
For our collaboration with the dancers I did not feel that it went too well for me , in rehearsals many people did not get the simple moves that we had to do correct and we went over and over it several times and managed to get it right afterwards but on the day we had to perform it I messed up and was so embarrassed about the situation so hopefully that would never need to be done again but in general we all did well.
Over this term I believe my skills have developed gradually each time we have a lesson. At the very start I was not so familiar on how to position my self on stage and was not aware that my voice was not loud enough for the audience to hear but now i know you have to stand in a way that your body is face to the audience in order for them to see you and your voice should be projected to the back of the room. My goals for next term is to earn a distinction because I believe I have all the skills in me to be able to achieve it.

4th november
First week back from the half term and we got given a script called our country's good. I am playing the character duckling who is a promiscuous women and my husband is called Harry , my objective is to be free as i am bored of him as he keeps nagging me and just is not any fun anymore. We have to be off script soon so we could start thinking of the actions we are going to use.
The following lesson we started to learn our scripts and had to write next to it the objective and any actions that we feel would be good for our character to act our for example my character is frustrated so most of the actions would be sulking and shouting.Sharon gave us a script called medea and we all got split into groups of three and got given different sections in the play to rehearse, my group is on the last page and my section is the middle bit.
We are going to be working with the musical theatre students with this script, they are going to say the first two or three pages.

Konstantin Stanislavski
Konstantin Stanislavski is a wealthy Russian theatrical director who was born in 1863 and died in 1938. He started working in the theatre from when he was a young teenager. He was a method actor and developed his acting skills as time went by performing with different acting groups not only in Russia but in the United states as well. He believed that actors had to really get into their roles by drawing own their own experiences to make it seem more believable to watch.
His family was descended from serfs ( which are slaves) they had prospered during the Industrial Revolution as producers and sellers of gold and silver thread. His father, Sergei Alekseev, was a rich Russian merchant and his mother, Elisaveta Vasilevna was in fact a French-Russian and his grandmother was a actress in Paris amazing right? Young Stanislavski grew up in a bilingual environment. He was very fond of Konstantin and how he grew up in luxury. Konstantin and his nine siblings were often taken to theatrical performances and concerts, and the family numbered famous Russian actors and dancers among their friends. Stanislavski supported the Russian Revolution of 1917, which put the government of Vladimir Lenin in power in the new Soviet Union. Lenin in turn respected Stanislavski installing him in a small house next to the Moscow Art Theatre.

Konstantin had a few known quotes but the one that caught my eye the most is '' There a no small parts only actors'' and if you think about it its true! A part can only be small if you yourself do not know how to develop it to make it big.
In 1898 Stanislavski along with his partner, founded the Moscow Art Theatre, that made an influence on theatrical art all over the world. They opened with staging of "Tsar Feodor" a play by Aleksei Tolstoy, then staged "The Seagull" written by Anton Chekhov specially for the Moscow Art Theatre. He did not go to university but he worked in his family's business, in the early stages of his life Konstantin became a well known amatuer actor and with his families resources he decided to invite some of the most creative people in the area to establish a society of professional actors and artists.
Stanislavsky system requires that an actor should utilize, among other things such as his emotional memory. The actor’s entrance onto the stage is considered to be not a beginning of the action or of his life as the character but a continuation of the set. The actor has trained his concentration and his senses so that he may respond freely to the total stage environment which is called method acting. Through observation of people in many different situations, he attempts to develop a wide emotional range so that his onstage actions and reactions appear as if they were a part of the real world rather than a make-believe one.

Greek theatre.
Greek theatre:
The Greek history started around 700 B.C ,a lot of the Greek city had a theatre because acting was basically apart of their culture, the actors were all men back in those days and they would wear masks to exaggerate any facial feature. The theatre was built on the hill sides that contained more than 18,000 spectators and formed in a circular shape so that when the actors are speaking everyone in the audience can hear what they are saying. A person called Aristotle was the first person to ever act on stage as a character rather than his self. Usually in the Greek festivals all the actors and directors would play as the same person but that changed after a while as only three actors could be used in the plays.
The Three well known Greek playwrights are: Sophocles , Euripides and Aeschylus. Aeschylus who competed in the city of Dionysia and wrote a few of the oldest tragedies in the world, not many of his plays survived he is also known as introducing the second actor on stage. The play write was born in 525 B.C. E in a town called Eleuisis, he was shown to be a great writer from a young age but did not win any competitions for it until he got to his late 30's but somehow had good luck around that period and managed to win almost every time he entered.
Sophocles had only seven tragedies that survived which includes Antigone ,Electra and Oedipus Rex. He won twenty four amazing contests for his plays and in each did not place any lower than second place and introduced the third actor on stage. He was born in Colonus a place not so far from Athens and was married twice a father of two sons. Sophocles was a priest , a politician and a leader in the military.
Euripides was a playwright who is believed to have written 90 plays while only 18 has survived which includes Medea , Hercules and the Trojan women. He always got criticized for the way he would question traditional things on stage, after his death his plays were used as pattern for other authors. Euripides was born in Athens 485 B.C (which was many years ago) he died in Macedonia 406 B.C, he was married and had three sons. Euripides known for having strong complex female characters in his plays, they always seem to be a victim but end up being avengers.
The play Medea has around seven themes which are all related to her behavior during the play but the two main ones were passion and revenge. Medea is a person who has a lot of emotion and love for her husband but his betrayal on her changed her love for him into rage. Second theme was revenge, Medea will do anything and everything she can to get revenge in the best way possible she even kills her own children to hurt Jason.
The plays above have a lot of themes but these are the ones that they mainly have in common which are: Death , love , revenge , fate ,power, determination. This information can come in handy when i am trying to get into the character of my role because one of the themes in my play is mainly death and my character is Antigone and she wants to commit suicide so in a way it can make me get used to what i am meant to be acting and how i should act it due to the fact that i know it is centered around death.
My job as an actor when i am working on this scene is to present it how i know it should be done. My character is telling her own sister (Ismene) that she wants to kill her self so I would have to put my self in that position and act as if I am really in that position so i could get into the role of that character and perform it well enough so it could look believable.

masks were used by the performers and always were acted out by a chorus with
three actors, the actors would go and change inside to play a different
character no matter how many roles it would be they would just simply have no
more people than that fixed amount.

Greek theatre Evaluation
My performance for the Greek theatre piece was overall great I said my lines correctly at the right pace and so did the two people that I was working with, we all had our body faced appropriately so that the audience could see what was going on and or voices were projected loudly The strength of my my performance has to most likely be my stillness on the stage, I had a good posture and did not dance on the spot when I was saying my lines. If there was any weakness in my performance I would say it would be lack of emotion because I did not really show so much sadness as i could have in my personal view.
The other drama class had an amazing performance it was emotional but also had a good moral as well. The first one had a good point that they were trying to get across because it was mainly about discrimination and in every scene they did they showed how people in this modern day acted towards others they hardly know just by looking at their appearance and at the end of their performance they put up signs that they made. The music performance had a few good singers and it was good how one of them told us to clap our hands to the song but as a whole could have been way better because some songs that were played did not really suit everyone's voice.
Overall the performance that stood out to me was the level 2 drama piece it was amazing. The moment that got to me was when the two men had to go to war and left their wives with no choice and one of them was pregnant but luckily her husband did not die but unfortunately her friends husband did and they showed the scene of him dying.
The audience conventions differ from each other because as a audience for watching a drama role play you have to be silent so you do not distract the actors and so you can hear what is being said but as a audience for a music performance you are able to sing along with them and to clap along as it can give the singers more confidence and it helps to ignite the performance.

12th - 16 th October
Monday we had rehearsals from 10 -1 and we were rehearsing for the last time we also had the musical theatre to join us and they needed a few actors to help them with their improvisational dance but we didn't dance we just did a improve as well. I had to call out names of what I wanted the people I'm working with to act out for example if I said you have ten seconds to make a TV they would have to form a shape of a TV with their bodies. When that was done we had a lunch break then went to Sharons lesson to rehearse a bit more. Our performance is tomorrow so Sharon let us use that time to practice we also had to say our lines using gibberish no words what so ever which was funny but at the same time hard because many of us lost track of where we were in the script.
Wednesday
Instead of us having tutorials with Rob and Sharon they let us use that time to rehearse before we were going to perform on stage. After that we went down to the theatre and got ready , I was for some reason calm compared to everyone else but as soon as I saw the amount of people that were coming to watch I was terrified and could not stop shaking at all but when it was my groups turn to act it went amazing I said all my lines correctly loud and clear and was very proud of my self.
Thursday
In the morning i had Hayley for English and we were looking at our final draft that we did for our creative writing. I need to add paragraphs for for my story though because I was so into what I writing that I forgot to do so. Later we had Rob but we didn't do much as we finished what we needed to finish so we just watched our performance. After that we had lunch then went to the theatre in the college to watch the other performing arts students perform and I must say the level 2 actors were really good.

I had English at 9 : 15 today and we were writing up our 150 words for our controlled assessment that we have on Tuesday, I didn't write as much words but I made sure to put the ones I know ill definitely need and to put smilies and personification aswell. After that we had to go to a trip to the theatre in Piccadilly to see a director called Mark Gatiss he's most known for doctor who.

Friday 9th October 2015
At 9:15 we had English and was looking at how to start our stories. Hayley gave us a booklet and we had to fill some bits in which helps us to have an understanding of what we are expected to do for our controlled assessments.
This is what I got given by my teacher to help me to plan out my story from the introduction to the end.
This was what I used to help me start off my story it has sentence starters.
After we finished planing everything we had 5 minutes left at the end to start writing our introduction and then we had a 30 minute break until lunch started.
When we had Rob went went to the recording studio to record our letters that we wrote in the other lesson and then later on did some improvisation with our play that we are currently working on and after that we had to reflect on how we thought what we just did helped us.
Thursday 8th October
Today in the morning i had Hayley and we got told how we are not doing a film review anymore which was a bit annoying because I spent time writing out my first draft for the film I was planning on doing but it did not bother me too much because we are going to be writing a story any one we want it to be but it has to be something completely different from the title of the original film for example pursuit of happiness is about a man who has a child and everything goes down hill to the fact they sleep in toilets because they have no where else to go but if I wanted to use that title of the film I can't keep the story line. After that we had a break and headed off to drama but it was mainly about fine tuning our pieces.

Wednesday 7th October 2015
Today we had Sharon at 10:00 for tutorial and we had to sort our paper things to make sure we gave in our consent forms. Then we got into groups and started discuss what we think would make a good study group and this is what my group came up with below. We mentioned how its good to be encouraging to other people in the group who may not be to confident to speak out , hardworking in order to get stuff done and many more. After that we were meant to have Rob but he was not in for the lesson so Sharon told us to start our Greek theatre essay.
Later on i had music with Phillip and we started to rehearse the blue moon song we are going to be singing in two weeks plus a song by Michael Jackson called Butterfly, i do not really like the song though because it is kind of boring but we had practice it anyway. Then we went to the computer room to listen to other singers that are from back in the day and then we did a bit of solos before we left. I sang a song called lost & found by Lianne la havas and he really liked it and wants me to sing it again in another lesson.

National theatre review.
As I was not at the national theatre last year I was not able to write a review about it but today Sharon told me to go on the website and look at a few videos to get some ideas about what they are about, the first video I looked at was the Cottesloe theatre and it was basically talking about how its one of the smallest of three of the national theatres. They normally use the theatre to show new plays and it can accommodate a different amount of numbers of seats.
This is the view from the Cottesloe theatre it may be small but it is still amazing.
The Olivier theatre is five storeys high and contains several elevators for many effects such as objects disappearing from the room or boats rising up into the stage. Its a big public theatre but for some reason it doesn't really get used as much as people think it may, it is named after the director of the national Laurence Oliver.
This is the view of the Olivier theatre.
Another theatre is the Lyttelton, it is a contemporary arch theatre and is known for its wide stage. The Lyttelton Theatre is named after Oliver Lyttelton who was the first chairman of the National Theatre, his parents were among the earliest of its campaigners.

In the morning with Rob we first started off playing a game of netball as a quick exercise to warm us up, at first we were all confused because he never said what we were going to do he just picked us at random and told some of us to stand at one side of the room and for two people to sit down on the opposite side then he told us after we did that. My group lost unfortunately because none of us where really sport fans but after we finished playing that we got split up in our groups to start rehearsing our scripts but also so he could help our groups individually to fix anything we are not exactly acting right or if we are over acting a character. So my group went to 226 and had the room to ourselves to practice we are all almost of script well I am but the two other people in my group are not quite there yet but they know some of their lines he never got the chance to help my group with our so next lesson that we have him he will do it then. We were rehearsing from 10 till 1 then had lunch and went to Sharon's lesson. When we had Sharon today we had give her our monologues that we auditioned with and annotate it on how we feel our character is feeling etc. We also had to go in pairs and tell each other what our monologue was about then go around the class telling other people what someone else monologue was about which made us use a lot of thinking because we had to use our memories to remember what was said to us. After that we had to write our own monologue about anything we wanted it to be about. Mine was about death and how i do not want to exist anymore because no body loves me and the world would not suffer as much if i was gone i also mentioned how i want to be buried with skeletons and skulls with roses wrapped around my body, it is a very dark monologue but it was also fun to write about.

I had English at 9:15 today and we were looking at the different camera shot views and how they can give the character a certain amount of power if they are at a certain view. We also carried on looking at film reviews and wrote our introduction today and for home work we have to complete our first draft.
This is what can help us to structure our reviews and the different paragraphs.
Later on we had Rob and did a few exercises as usual before we started the actual lesson. We did tounge twisters and leg stretches and humming all the voice work you could think of. After that we had to write a letter in the voice of the character we are playing to anyone we wanted I'm Antigone so I decided to write a letter to my sister ismene telling her how sorry I was for killing myself and hoping she was doing fine.
The letter I wrote was not long at all but it was still heart touching and full of emotions. We had an hour break after doing that then went back to do our rehearsals and i am finally off script which is so good I'm very proud of myself considering we have only done it for three weeks now.

Thursday 1st October 2015
Wednesday I was not in as I had stomach pains.
Thursday morning I had English with Helen my my new English teacher and she is so lovely! We started to look at film reviews and how to begin our introduction for our own one , afterwards we looked at other people's film reviews that were not so good and ones that were good enough to pass and had a sheet that we needed to look at the different bands. 5 is the best most likely an A then it's band 4 which is a B and band 3 which is a C. Later on we had our lunch break then headed off too drama at 12:15 , we did something in drama that we have never done before which is lying down on the floor and breathing In and out working with our respiration , we did that for about 10 long minutes and then started to do the usual tounge twisters. Some of us at random and had to make up one and I got chosen and I made one which was ' little long lovely legs' it is nice and easy to pronounce. Then we got given a sheet full of sentences we had to read out and in a circle each one of us read it out but had to take our time saying it.

Monday 28th September 2015
Early morning with Rob we did various amounts of work, but of course we started off with the usual warm ups saying Oo Ar Or loud strong and clear to get our articulation going. Half the class got separated and we had a face off with tongue twisters the two different groups had to say them as loud as we can and the loudest group wins it was funny because it was something you would see on a Tv show but after that we started to Rehearse our lines but this time with a bit of a twist to it.. we had to say it in as many emotions we could for example sad , happy , with grief and it is interesting to see how a Greek play can be used in different emotions and still mange to be good. Then we all did a fun exercise in which we had to go over our lines and rob would shout out a theme for us to do while we act for example romantic comedy in which we would sort of flirt or 1940's French and put an accent or something french people would do in that time, it was funny watching everyone do it and it was quite fun acting it out as well. When we finished that we all sat down and Rob got people who wanted to be in the next exercise to go in a hat and pick out the emotions and the actors would have to say their part in the script and when an emotion gets called out quickly change into it and act as the way it is suited to what was being said. We had a short 15 minute break and when we got back we did a questionnaire about Greek plays and where put into the different groups that we are doing our plays on we marked each others groups score and my group had a total of 11/ 17 which was not too bad. Later on at 2 we had Sharon and we had to do our monologues, for what reason? I have no clue but it was not as bad as it seemed i was not as shy as i thought i would be which a good thing and everyone acted out their monologues brilliantly,my monologue was Medea written by Euripides and is about a woman who got cheated on her husband and wanted to take serious revenge on him so she decides to kill her sons.

Friday morning i had English with Carolyn and we were reading through a film review and had to underline words we weren't so familiar with and match the words in the review to the meaning. We got told that we had to write a film review of our choice for one of our controlled assessments so when i went home i managed to write one up about ' Step up 2 the streets' as she set this for our homework and that was a very enjoyable film to watch. In the lesson we were looking at different types of good English and words that are different in a few languages for example love is in English but in Spanish its Amor and french Amour and in Italian its Amare.
When we finished our English lesson we had a little lunch break then went to drama but we did not have a drama lesson as the class were going to the trip to the national theatre but before we left Rob gave us our scripts and who is playing who I have the lead role of Antigone, there will be a bit of pressure on me as I am a main character and I will need to know my lines but it will be a first because I have never had a lead role before.
Afterwards, the class went to the national theatre , but the ex level 2's could not go as we went last year but we still decided to follow them to the building and wait so we could go back to the college and watch a musical theatre company do their performance. We waited for nearly two hours for them to finish.. but when we got back to college we watched the little performance, I did not enjoy it to be honest i found it boring and some scenes did not make sense to me for example when they were dancing on the bed. At the beginning of the play they told us that it was about love , friendship and how one of the men got his heart broken by another man and some scenes were split into two so the person was talking to the camera while the other half of the screen he was singing and playing his guitar.

Wednesday 20th september
No blog for Tuesday as it was my day off.
Wednesday morning we had Sharon and we had to fill in some forms and did a questionnaire on moodle, one of the papers she gave out was about what we want to achieve after completing the course and what our goals for the future are and many more questions similar to that which was all for that lesson and 5 minutes later we had Rob in the same room. We were sorting out our blogs , writing down notes on the Greek theatre and have to write about the playwrights, the dates and times when it was created in total has to be 1,500 words.
This is the picture of the Greek theatre course work we have to start working on.
After Sharons lesson we had Rob in the same room and started to create our blogs which failed for most of us as there is something wrong with the Internet connection in the college so when I went home I decided to make a blog there. Robs lesson was mainly about trying to get our blogs up and running and him telling us about the different Greek plays such as Medea , antigone and Oedipus. After all of that we had a lunch break and all headed off to our enrichment course we had chosen to do. I chose to do singing as it's been a passion of mine since I was young , we all had a choice if we wanted to do technical theatre, music production , singing, computer science ,photography and dance. My singing teacher is Phillip and at the beginning of the lesson we had to play a game and choose a song but not say the name of it we had to describe it until the class guessed what it was. Afterwards we had to warm up our voices by humming and standing up straight then we sang a song by Stevie Wonder together.
That's the lyrics to the song we got given.
As it was our first lesson Philip needed to see our vocal ranges so we had to sing to him one by one I got told I'm a F sharp which he said is pretty good. He also gave us a sheet telling us when we will have performances etc.
Phillip said we have to prepare a song for next week to sing solo and have a backing track basically an instrumental but at the moment I'm not so sure what i want to sing. It's either between Paloma faith - only love can hurt like this , Amy Winehouse- you know im no good or break even by the script.

Monday 18th september.
Monday morning with Rob we played a few games to warm us up such as 'it' and musical chairs it was strange to me though because those are primary school games but after that we got into small groups and had to brainstorm the different types of acting skills an actor would need which you'll see below.
When we were finished with that we got told to go in a circle placing our hand on our stomach breathing in and out to feel the way it feels when air comes in and out through the nose/mouth. Then we got giving tongue twisters to get our mouth ready for tricky pronunciations and vowels which we had to go up and say one by one in a deep voice, it was slightly awkward because he wanted us to look at everyone in the eyes as we said it but we managed to do it.
Afterwards,we went for our lunch break and headed off to Sharon's lesson in the dance studio. We sat in a circle and read a Shakespeare poem together out loud then we all had to pick a word which we thought stood out to us and gave a gesture when we said it. When we did that for a good half an hour we paired up and took turns to read the poem to each other as if we were the character.
This is the Shakespeare poem we were working on today and from it we devised a little drama piece. We got put in groups and each group had different paragraphs to say / act out my group used the middle verse and we performed it group by group then at the end put each piece together as one.
At the end of the lesson Sharon gave us all this sheet to fill out which is basically summing up what we did the whole lesson, she said we will be given sheets like this in some of the lessons to be completed.
